Understanding yoga results

What formed, not formed and undetermined tell you about a planetary combination.

In chart interpretation, a yoga is a named planetary combination. BirenAstro checks a limited catalogue of nine rules against the calculated chart and shows the placements used as evidence. It does not detect every combination described in every school of astrology.

Read the verdict and evidence together

Formed means the implemented conditions are satisfied. Not formed means they are not. Undetermined means a required fact is unavailable, often because a rule needs houses and the birth time is unknown. Undetermined is not a negative result and should not be read as one.

A rule is narrower than a reading

A combination can satisfy a simple geometric rule while other chart factors complicate its traditional meaning. Differences between schools, cancellation conditions and strength assessments may extend beyond the implemented catalogue. Use the displayed evidence to understand exactly what was checked.

What to do with a detected combination

Locate its participating planets in the table and read their signs, houses and conditions. Ask which shared topics the combination might connect. A name associated with prosperity or status in a tradition is not a guarantee of wealth or rank, and the absence of a named yoga is not a verdict about someone’s potential.

The four lunar and solar combinations

Gajakesari checks whether Jupiter is first, fourth, seventh or tenth by sign from the Moon. Its traditional interpretation connects lunar responsiveness with Jupiter’s judgment, guidance and wider perspective. Begin by finding the Moon and Jupiter and counting from the Moon’s sign as one.

Budha-Aditya checks the Sun and Mercury in the same sign. It combines purpose and authority with communication and discrimination. Because Mercury remains near the Sun, read the separate combustion flag as well as the conjunction evidence.

Chandra-Mangala checks the Moon and Mars in the same sign in this implementation. It brings emotional responsiveness into contact with initiative and effort. Some traditions consider additional relationships, but the displayed result here is based on conjunction.

Kemadruma examines whether the Moon’s own, preceding and following signs lack the planets included by the rule, with the Sun and nodes excluded. The implementation also checks a cancellation involving eligible planets in kendras from the ascendant. When birth time is missing, the cancellation cannot be settled; read the evidence and uncertainty together.

The five Mahapurusha combinations

These five rules look for a specific planet in an own, moolatrikona or exaltation dignity and in a kendra from the ascendant. The kendras are houses 1, 4, 7 and 10. Because the test needs the ascendant, an unknown birth time leaves these combinations undetermined.

Ruchaka concerns Mars and themes of action, courage and execution. Bhadra concerns Mercury and skill in reasoning, language and practical exchange. Hamsa concerns Jupiter and themes of counsel, learning and a larger perspective.

Malavya concerns Venus and appreciation, refinement and relationship. Shasha concerns Saturn and structure, responsibility and sustained influence. Read the actual planet’s house to understand which area of life supplies the context.

A worked example and a near miss

With Cancer rising, Mars in Capricorn occupies the seventh house and its exaltation sign. That meets the basic Ruchaka conditions used here. With Gemini rising, the same Mars occupies the eighth house, which is not a kendra, so this particular rule does not form.

The change comes from the ascendant and house assignment, not from Mars moving. This is why a list of sign placements alone cannot settle every yoga and why a yoga name should be read alongside its evidence.
